Coach Wright embraced the BFS Program and went to work on his athletes. Wright recalls, “we began to meet at 6:15 each morning for our workout prior to school. We had almost 100% participation each workout day.” An excellent work ethic was formed and the Rebels were getting poised for a winning season.
The team also took to heart Coach Wright’s philosophy, “Athletes become successful when they push themselves beyond the point they feel they can’t do any more but somehow dig deep into their soul to accomplish it. Other players may be bigger but it is our fault if they out work us.” By sticking to their coaches philosophy, RCA went from a 2-8 record in ‘97 to finishing the ‘98 season with a 10-2 record.
About their future, Coach Wright says, “We are going to build upon what this year’s team has accomplished and carry it on to the next level. We want to make the playoffs and win our last game. That is why our off-season is so important. We do dot and box drills relentlessly to help increase our speed and agility. We also spend a lot of time in the weightroom trying to get stronger.” RCA is headed in the right direction and with the momentum they have built up, I’m sure, nothing will be able to stop them.
