Nelson was not that one, as testing by Poliquin s team of doctors discovered that a specific bacterium called proteus mirabilis was affecting Nelson's digestive system, especially his ability to assimilate protein.
Within three months he gained 25 pounds of solid muscle and even decreased his body fat by five percent. Nelson says his goal is to add another 15 pounds of muscle before the Olympics. I thought I was overtraining or just stressed out, says Nelson. Once we corrected that problem, everything went back into place again. I have more energy for training and I ve gotten so much stronger this year.
Another priority in Nelson s training was developing muscular balance to prevent injuries. Adam s current training didn t address muscular balance, so we worked a lot of antagonist muscles to the shot put, says Poliquin. We did a lot of chin-ups, fat bar work, and a lot of work with partial movements, bands and lifting chains. One reason that lifting chains work so well is they are one of the few methods that can improve both explosive power and maximal strength at the same time. Adds Nelson, Chains force you to continually push yourself to accelerate though the lift, rather than keeping a steady pressure. We used them for core lifts such as inclines and squats.
This will give you an idea of how strong Nelson has become since addressing his health issues and using these unique tble to have a choice in colleges, but first he plans on doing a two-year mission for his church after high school. He still has plenty of tme to decide on a vocation, but one thing he s certain of is that he wants to someday have a family of his own.
Kacey is strong in spirit as well as body. Coach Oliff recalls one time when the team was preparing to get on the bus for a match. I put Kacey s wheelchair onto the bus, and there was about 20 feet of wet pavement between the curb and the bus. I asked him if he wanted me to pick him up and put him on the bus. He just looked at me like, What am I, a baby?
Kacey expects to succeed in life's Upper Limits. We featured four throwers, one of which was Stefan Fernholm. The original BFS Program came from the throwers in the late 1960's and 1970's but these new throwers added much to the BFS Program. Stefan weighed 275 and stood a little more than 6-1. His legitimate forty was 4.3 (hand held) with a 40-inch ertical jump from a stand. Stefan's Power Clean was 476 pounds. One of the other throwers, Soren, could run as fast as Stefan an high jump seven feet weighing 273 pounds. So we took all of these training secrets and combined it with our American syste f sports. I am a pragmatist. I figured when someone can do bettr than those throwers, I would change. And, here it is 2003, and we have ound no need to change because no one can beat those guys.
I know that athletes can become stronger on the BFS Program in the least amount of time than any other program. It is also more motivating than any other high school or college program as we break eight or more personl records every week. Our stretching program is way out in front as is our Plyometric Box Jumping program.
There are three secrets to the BFS Program. First, is hat To Do. If you do not do the BFS Program or something similar, then you cannot reach your fllest athletic potential. Second, is How To Do It. BFS has more complete information on the technique of training than any other source. Third, is Implementation. Most high schools fail to implement a unified proram. Two andthree sport athletes should have one strength and conditioning program to follow. Many college programs need to have more unified implemntation. For example, the method of teaching the Squat or Power Clean should be done the same way by allstrength oaches at a particular college along with the same exact terminology. The head strength coach needs to have all his assistants on the same page.r us tomorrow." The San Francisco Examiner explained this attitude, "Oh, I'm sorry, we were busy producing Nobel Pr
