How can I salvage this workout? The set record is out of reach but maybe I can break a rep record. You think the easiest one to break is the 8-rep record. You put on 270 pounds. The first reps go easy. You get six, then seven and now eight reps. A record! It s real heavy now but if you could just squeeze out another two you could get another record. You just barely get nine reps but that s not good enough because you do not get credit for it. You know that you have to get one more. Just one more. You give it all you have but you only get it halfway. Exhausted, you set the bar down and record what you have just done.
You totaled 885 pounds on your 3X3 Set Record. You record 270 pounds on your new 8-rep record. After a moment, you realize that you gave everything you had and even though you were down a little bit, you still broke, at least, one record. You vow to do better next time.
What happens if you are down a little bit on a periodization program? You fail completely. Pure and simple. The BFS System is the only program where you can be down and still break personal records. This is one reason we get massive voluntary participation. This is our underlying goal at the high school and non-scholarship college levels. Until our next issue, may you break personal records every day. y religious beliefs keep me from doing it. I have never had a drop. Linsey: I don't do it because it isn't rigt. We all have made it clear to our friends that we don't do that stuff. So there is no social pressure now. Q:WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE SUCCESSFUL OR DO YOU HAVE ANY SAGE ADVICE? Ashley: You have only one chance in life so make the best of it. We didn't win the national championship on March 3rd: we won it with three hour practices and obeying the rules. Lindsey: It takes dedication and hard work. Also, if you are going to play, you should play because you love it. Brianne: Talent can only take you so far. You have to have a work ethic. Q: WHAT DO THE GUYS THINK ABOUT YOU LIFTING WEIGHTS? Ashley: The guys know this is what we do. Lindsey: </STONG>I am getting stronger. So what if you're agirl. Cherisse: Sometimes they say, "You're such a wimp." But, we are National Champions. We aren't going to let them intimidate us.

About three months after our interview and just before wewent to press, I called the girls to find out what the effects of our mini-clinic were on their lifting program. Here is what they said: Lindsey: We worked really hard after you left. We could really tell the difference. It was neat showing other people how to do the lifts. <SRONG>Brianne: We learned a whole lot. We ow watch others and can easily pick out thei mistakes. Cherisse: It's a lot easier to o it now. We notice a difference. Sometimes we tell the guys about their mistakes. It makes me feel cool that I now know what to look for.

We thank Coach Brad Smith who has developed athletes who are self reliant and have such a wonderful attitude. We wish them well on thir quest to win their third consecutive national title.
health so he can continue to prepare and we hope to see Tag making it big in the big league
someday.rk( F
