He gave freely of his time, money and talents. Mario helped others play their song.
see their own progress. Their competition with themselves is the real fuel to their fire. I have noticed constant improvement in the quality of work the guys are doing. Also, the time in the weight room allows for strong bonds to form between teammates. This dynamic team unity that begins in the weight room carries over to their on- and off-field relationships with each other. I like to think that a lot of our success is formed from the family environment that is initially created in the weight room, Riccio said.
This off-season the Mountain Lions are once again hard at work in the weight room in hopes of taking that next step of playing for a state championship next year. For two years in a row the Altoona players and coaches have come up one game short. But that s all the more reason to work that much harder this year. And one area of improvement will be with the in-season weight program.
I don t think we ve done a great job with the in-season program. If we want to win a state championship, I think it s going to come from not being satisfied with maintaining our strength throughout the season. We need to keep getting stronger, and the BFS in-season program is going to help! said Adams.
In 2003, the Mountain Lions expect nothing less than a trip to the state championship. And there is reason for their optimism. They have two of the best offensive linemen in the state of Pennsylvania in Sean Shannon and Zack Haulman. Whatever the outcome, the Mountain Lions know the road to the state championship will go through the weight room first. 275 to 325 pounds and chin-ups from 9 to 18. Proving this Beane can jump, his broad jump has gone from 8-feet-9 inches to 9-feet-6-inches. Not bad, considering he's been training under the BFS principles for only three years, and gone from a hey-look-at-me athlete to the Division II leader.
Easy going off the field, Beane is deceptively quick and agile. You look at Damian and you think, 'I don't see anything super special here,' says Cater. But he's very quick and if you give him some space, he's going to get an awful lot of mileage out of it. And he's very difficult to tackle in the open field. He seems to get out of so many things. He's shifty and has excellent feet. He's a lot stronger runner than people think."
When Damian arrived on campus, he was virtually unseen because of his size, but when he walked on the field, everyone saw him because his heart was bigger than his body. Beane weighed 175 lbs. when reporting to camp his freshman year, was very scrawny looking, and was listed fourth on the depth chart. During camp, though, the coaches knew that they had someone special playing tailback, says Yurish. However, for Damian to play the entire season, he needed to get to work in the weight room ASAP! The success he had in that season motivated him in the off-season and by the end of his freshman year, he weighed 196 lbs. I'm an old-school guy who believes what you put into something, is what you get out of it, and I think this is the case with Damian. His success on the field definitely parallels his success off the field, Yurish states. Even though Beane isn't the strongest member of the Ram football team, he definiteick and myself up until 1990, but now we've grown to 20 because the need has increased. What I really love about our company is every summer we get all our clinicians together in Utah to ij@f we're still on the same page, and to plan what we can do to make things better.
On a personal note, Greg Shepard has always been there for me as well as for all the other clinicians. Greg has great vision and optimism -- he sees only the greatest in something. He's continually striving to make this company better.

BFS isn't the only company out there with plenty to say about improving performance. With all the strength coaching and personal training organizations out there, are coaches generally caught up with the latest research in conditioning and doinng most of the right things?
We aren't even close to being caught up! We still have coaches who believe that weight training will stunt growth and make athletes muscle-bound. We still have coaches who believe that you should put heat on a turned ankle. And I'm just amazed that coaches will drive 500 miles to learn how to stop a wing-T offense, but they won't drive 50 miles or even stay in their own community to learn how to train their athletes
