Feedback, from a coach, parent, or teammate is important.<br>The Actual Sprint<br>You must start low, explode out, extend completely with back leg and big vigorous arm action. Videotaping the sprint is highly recommended for analyzing the athlete s performance. If you want to become a faster athlete follow the BFS 8-point Sprint Technique System.<br>Upper<br>1. Head  head should be upright.<br>2. Eyes- - eyes should be fixed looking straight ahead.<br>3. Back  back should be upright and slightly arched.<br>4. Shoulders  shoulders should rotate vigorously with elbows fixed in a 90-degree angle.<br>5. Wrist  wrist should simulate a whip action as the shoulder rotates back.<br>Lower<br>6. Legs  initial leg action is to lift forward then up. The lower leg should hang before planting.<br>7. Feet - feet should make the initial plant directly under the hips and not out in front of the body.<br>8. Knees  on the follow-through or end of the leg drive, the knee should fullyuring the time I worked with Curt and Stewart we never did any pressing. Stewart could never bench press 200 pounds, and Amy Miller has jerked 237 pounds overhead but can t do a military press with 75 pounds. Amy has one of the best jerks I ve seen, male or female, and certainly the best jerk of anyone I ve coached. I am of the belief that the jerk is a speed and technique lift, so with my athletes I emphasize speed, speed and more speed.<br>BFS: What effect does the starting age have on speed and starting strength?<br><br>Schnorf: The sooner you can establish the proper motor patterns in lifting the better. The toughest athletes to teach are the kids who are maybe 16 to 18 and have done a lot of bodybuilding exercises it gets very frustrating for them. I think that especially for a kid who s pretty bright and has an appropriate attention span, the younger you can get themnow what you are? On a scale of one to ten, you are an eleven; or that was an eleven thing to do. The BFS Set-Rep System is a phenomenal way to use extrinsic motivation. First, all athletes break at least eight personal records per week. This is great by itself but you can also give awards for all kinds of things: most records broken, biggest gains, most improved, etc. Use t-shirts, caps or other things the kids can earn. However, as this is done, always refer back to the main goal. For example, say,  Because of your hard work, we are closer to our goal. Here is a shirger has a big advantage over an athlete who begins at a later age, especially in terms of how the body handles it and frequently in how the mind handles it.
