The other group perormed 475 jumps using the shock training method. Although the shock training group performed a third less work, these athletes showed greater improvement in reactive ability than the group using traditional methods.
Again, this is why you should regard weight training (including the Olympic lifts) and most forms of commonly used plyometrics as valuable readiness activities for shock training.

Shock training is a powerful tool for athletic training, but because it places such high levels of tension on the muscles and stress on the nervous system, it must be approached with caution. This entails first developing a strength base with BFS core lifts, and perfecting the technique of the lower intensity shock trainng exercises. Accurate visualization of reactive movements, split-second decision making during sporting conditions, proper breath holding patterns, and fine tuning the nervous system (to develop what Siff calls cognitive plyometrics) take years of practice to perfect. Only after such preparation should you gradual My next move took me to Brigham Young University, where I worked with football players and the power lifting team. Paul Howard, a lineman, gained 45 pounds in one year, reaching 275, andimproved his forty from 5.2 to 4.8. He played ten years for the Denver Broncos. Paul Devine was a running back who was also on my power lifting team (see Figure #6). He helped us win the1973 national collegiate power lifting championship. Paul graduated and raised his family in southern California. His son Kevin was taught how to parallel squat and train (see Figure #7 and #8). Kevin ran a 4.2 forty at the combine and played in the NFL for several years. I was so impressed with Kevin that we did a football speed video featuring Kevin s ideas on speed improvement.
I once had a 5 9 250-pound sophoore football player in 1977 named Charles who ran a 6.9 forty. Charles, I told him, you may have just set a record for the slowest time in history. As I see it, you ve got two choices. Either eat lettuce for every meal or squat like crazy. Well, Charles didn t like lettuce. By the end of his senior year, Charles was 5 11 and weighed 300 pounds. What do you think? Was he slower after all those squats and with that extra 50 pounds?
Charles parallel squatted 745 pounds in a national competition and briefly held the teenage national record qb;zJS>'#>WyeK +*v:w%rKW'UiB)6|q{GwoLTv &kit[ՑJ4OR9R7\Cp[ l5N5vki/m贆d&RRx CQrZe䧎Ά}Avߏzy!=+~iN\G4ڔ㙺Blڹڀ($d;U!EEµko|<CZeeB0VAɞzu ^u,<цBڞt _ZpZ`)DӖ0;[f"DךӢ9**I9}"HQCjTqݎڇs{9L$BjY75s_XLJG s!1AQa"q2B#R3b$r%C4Scs5D'6Tdt& EFVU(eufv7GWgw8HXhx)9IYiy*:JZjzm!1AQa"q2#BRbr3$4CS%cs5DT &6E'dtU7()󄔤euFVfvGWgw8HXhx9IYiy*:JZjz ?6?gU"9"m[fx69bm]}X}"'$$7: dUr3&:L1hwuYD0vX䠩VBx2Cr?zec"ҭk5қTڶ "б`x _Ej^l!Ky 'Ǡˣ6N.6W3S.F]R~pJ9-};B^go,GPYceroing the margin of the last element in the #header div will avoid margin collapse - an unexplainable space between divs. If the div has a border around it, this is not necessary as that also avoids the margin collapse */ padding: 5px 0; /* using padding instead of margin will allow you to keep the element away from the edges of the div */ } .oneColFixCtrHdr #mainContent { padding: 0 6px 12px 6px; /* remember that padding is the space inside the div box and margin is the space outside the div box */ background: #FFFFFF; vertical-align: top; } .oneColFixCtrHdr #footer { padding: 0 10px; /* this padding matches the left alignment of the elements in the divs that appear above it. */ background:#DDDDDD; } .oneColFixCtrHdr #footer p { margin: 0; /* zeroing the margins of the first element in the footer will avoid the possibility of margin collapse - a space between divs */ padding: 10px 0; /* padding on this element will create space, just as the the margin would have, without the margin collapse issue */ } .bodycopy { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; line-height: 16px; color: #000; } .fineprint { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 5px; } .maintable { border-bottom-width: 2px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: #000; margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 10px; } -->
