She recalls one story of two German high jumpers who entered a competition in the 70s. When they found out that the meet was goig to take several hours, they left the meet and went down to a local coffee shop and had a few cigarettes and several leisurely cups of coffee. Says Amy, "When they came back to the meet they found that they had misjudged the time and there was only one jumper left before them, so they had to warm up in a hurry. They With time running out while signaling for a time out, time expired. The place erupted with kids jumping all around. But the referees put one second on the clock, saying West High did call a time out before the clock read 00:00. With that second on the clock, they kicked a 23-yard field goal to win the game. Another test for the Mustangs. The only thing I could tell my team was God had something in mind for us.

Now we had lost three All-State players but we shut out the next team by rushing for 268-yards using 10 different backsumpers to perform specialized exercises for their ankles. "You get a lot of power from your feet, and if your ankles are hurting you're going to suffer. I do all kinds of ankle strengthening, such as picking up sand and running on the toes to strengthen the arches, surgical tubing exercises, and rocker boards--I work on my ankles a lot."
For younger jumpers, Amy believes in the importance of being exposed to a variety of sports. "You learn a lot through other sports and through competition. It's just like your academic studies--you need to become a student of your sport and learn all there is about it. The high jump takes a lot of technique, but you can't stop there. You need to learn the mechanics, the physics and the psychology of the jump to really succeed."
Amy has given quite a bit of thought to the psychology of sports and believes there are some truths behind the stereotypes about track and field athletes. She says that sprinters are confident, bordering on cocky; throwers are the jokers and are laid-back; pole vaulters are the daredeils, and distance runners tend to engage in strange rituals and habits that she feels border on "just plain weird." She also says that because players. Each team had healed from earlier injuries. The team who wanted it the most and who had prepared the best and the hardest during tfrom behind to win, they can rise to the occasion and deliver their best performance. That s what they are trained to do.
That s what BFS athletes and teams do everyday. Break records. Reaching down and finding the energy to go beyond the ordinary, to the extraordinary.
That s why BFS schools win. They train to win everyday, they discipline themselves to complete their workout, they break records. They know that every record they break is another step toward winning the Championship. They know that they are on a collision curse with success, t
