How has he helped your program?<br>DS: I ve known Dr. Ripley for more than five years, and he is undoubtedly the best sports doctor I have had the pleasure to work with. I would estimate some athletes I have worked with have boosted their performanes by two- to three percent fro following his guidelines. In my area of coaching the sprints and hurdles, hat can be the difference between being first or coming in last in your event fina. Dr. Ripley uses his modified active release techniques to enhance muscle functioning and also to expedite rehabilitation of injury.<br><br>BFS: What problems do you encounter with your freshman sprinters?<br>DS: A sprinter needs to have equality between their front-side and backside mechanics. What I find is that due to a lack of basic strength, our younger sprinters often have develope significantly greater backside mechanics, reducing front-side mechanics. As a result, braking action increases, severely restricting force application it. <br><br>BFS: Is it true that at a smaller school players have the advantage of getting more playing time to perfect their football skills?<br><br>JS: The opportunity to play is greater here. Of course, when I first started, I could say very honestly to a recruit that he could come in and play a lot of football his first year. But, now that we have veterans around, most guys still have to sit out a year in order to get on the field.<br><br>BFS: Do you  red shirt players?<br><br>JS: We don t use the term  red shirt in Division 3. In the other divisions, once you start your football career you have five years to play four; in Division 3 you have ten semesters to play four years.
