Anything that is going to hurt your body, says Conrad, you must stay away from. Drugs, alcohol and/or tobacco are not for anybody; athlete or non-athlete. Conrad has never gone near a drug, taken a sip of alcohol or touched a tobacco product.
It was never hard for me, explained Conrad. The first time I was offered was at an 8th grade party. I decided to go home. I asked if anyone wated to leave with me and one person did. We ended up watching a movie and eating pizza. Coach Ivie has had both his sons, Conrad and younger brother Cole repeat the BFS Three Rules For Success and do the BFS Dot Drill before breakfast since they were two years old. They do this everyday. One of those rules is to refuse to associate with anyone, anyplace or anyhing that will create mediocrity or negativity. Conrad refuses to associate in a drug, alcohol or tobacco situation.
Conrad always gives out his cell phone number and offers to drive others home. He warns, Don t drive with alcohol in you. When you keep saying no to alcohol people start respecting you and eventually they jld could be like if we could all just get along. Harvard students may lead the world, but Brown students will change it. The profundity of that statement astonished me, it has been with me ever since.
To help defray the costs of attending college, both Brenda and Lindsay were able to receive academic scholarships---which was an economic neessity since neither Harvard nor Bown gives athletic scholarships. Says Brenda, I think the explanation is they re trying to attract people with diverse qualities and talents, and it would go against their principles for them to say they re going to give an athletic scholarship as opposed to a scholarship to the best violinist in the United States, or whatever field that person stands out in.
Lindsay and Brenda excelled both academically and athletically at their respective campuses, which only goes to disprove the widespread notion that great athletes cannot perform equally well in academics. Brenda remembers, Every year aftr spring break the Harvard track team would run in two meets in Houston. When inevitably we were asked what school we were from and we said Harvard, people would say, Harvard has a track team? And of course whenever our Harvard athletes won their events, everyone was just shocked.
Although many superstar athletes would argue that academics interferes with their training, Lindsay says that the discipline that track and field develops, especially in regard to time management, can carry over to other aspects of life. 6w.2 w06w2 w06w2 w06wv}2 w06wع2 w06w2 w06w2 w06w[32 wyծ%$G PUi!3 yAӵ[{9ds}z: ֕۹JN,ɧU;KIP;``.i qF*?1YU*p@=> UbjTW_HH@:_20|'k|Aogu"$$sӊu 4t9}A5iڢ3 se+8cI'(7=BD2վ|W<1a_2gcC{JCPQxJ9Ƶ1y֝Z *1Z0-;myնsYj,gn :*DYRF 'msceUJ-rٯ$dvyɬ^\D`C ҫ<j~:o(f-1l0,` JS #˱&iIHUV8Er֯)h:TRCd eoc*[Ohvov P_ҕmً{akIUiFJď9-ŏʊ[K S n OʲU9^ ;/{RV 0?bҢj#4 "bPJMDzթ)qԬ=p $]-BhcԱ,~aX~Ձ -.% zqO#׽>eJMUKa}6H"i B){JTn*6p~s21RnHF~ߑUhZ;WM:}M\b;}F IL֟umZe # [02XWN.m} 10 3/UXm˷|nA3J:0)߫% sW=3ު5gP[Dk+ ҩ4sMކaژM4"ʶzTsP *HԌs6rTuJp@ 2:cҷSQAsӻRƘ c3M*h0U@>Jxhh?g!1x9 gV@#Ur@X->0ڂlYwUBj}IeJlS!MIo}argr+T>7MFm#w%U>·5Ol4|C 1@j's Printer Friendly Version

THE BFS BOX SQUAT
Unfortunately the safety of this antastic Core Lift is questioned because of misconceptions that it compresses the spine and is dangerous to the lower back. We know this is an effective and safe lift<

I learned about the Box Squat from two throwers in Los Angeles in the late 1960s. George Frenn was our nations best Hammer thrower and John Cole was one of the best Discus throwers. Both George and John were also world record holders in Powerlifting. We first trained at the original Golds Gym in Venice Beach and then later at the West Side Barbell Club. Louie Simmons, who has trained many Powerlifting record holders, also learned about Box Squats at the same place. He took this knowledge back to Columbus, Ohio and now has his own West Side Barbell Club.
There are misconceptions that Box Squats compress the spine and/or are dangerous to the lower back. There is even a poster in a number of weight rooms describing these two misconceptions. As a result, most people dont know the advantage of this superior BFS core lift.
