"es[p/YWRI$ /(Q\t#Zhz9{T[k=QE 5y2TojyDGf;dPݑQ:->07`*I&5ǭW%YNεiD2#ޝ)6$g19y ["f}KU?U FIRjd5:[eݪP)8?™!qJ); \bP)hbsR8Rw)'ޫ-*iI5)o})%AN)KLӽD}J;3JȔ~%?Z_VN.=*$Μ&m=cERwp ߝ\퓝gr cabins at 10:00 p.m. and lights are out at 10:30 p.m.&nbsp; It is a tough week but it is an experience the players look forward to each year.&nbsp; On the last night we elect captains and have a pizza party for the seniors.&nbsp; This year for the first time in my 15 years as a head coach the players elected only one captain.&nbsp; As is the case&nbsp; most of the time, the players knew exactly what they were doing.&nbsp; Daryn Plummer, a 6'2, 200 pound L.B. and O.T., had been a 3 year varsity starter and now he was the one and only Franklin Football Captain.&nbsp; As an eighth grader, he sat in the stands and saw Rick Anderson put on our first BFS clinic and here he was 4 years later the captain of the Franklin Football Team.&nbsp; As was his style, he did not have much to say in his acceptance speech, but little did we know then that Daryn would lead us back to Giants Stadium and the 1996 finals.</P> <P>We were picked pre-season as the #1 team in the area, we won our first game 35-8 and then we lost our second game 20-6 at home.&nbsp; We were winning 6-0 at the half and then we were outplayed 20-0 in the second half.&nbsp; I could tell that the players were a little shook up coming off the&nbsp;field and I spoke to Coach Martin about how we were going to address the team.&nbsp; As it turned out, when we got to the locker room a former player and captain of our 1994 championship team Rob Edmond was addressing the team.&nbsp; He payed particular attention to the seniors when he spoke about leadership, dedication, family and having the heart of a champion.&nbsp; Well, the message hit home so much that there was very little for the coaches to say.&nbsp; The 1996 team had been challenged by a former player and the only quey and plyometric program in a circuit, followed by a competitive activity as a culminating event at the end of each session.<br><br>Include a fun activity once a week.<br><br>Encourage our athletes to never settle for average. Push them to go beyond their optimal training zone. Push them to "Be An Eleven." These athletes thrive on being pushed.<br>w from the previous days preliminaries, Oerter could have stayed in the top eight without over extending himself.&nbsp; However, he said, "I just thought about the four years of hard work and those 1460 days. &nbsp;I did not want to cheat myself."&nbsp; Then during finals each competitor was allowed three throws.&nbsp; But because of the excruciating pain, Oerter decided to make the 2nd throw his last.&nbsp; "So," tells Oerter, "on that second throw I gave it everything I had."&nbsp; He threw an Olympic record!</P> <P>When asked about the struggles experienced in training for the Olympics, Oerter replied, "Barriers in life happen all the time.&nbsp; You have got to step it up.&nbsp; If you back down, you never learn anything about life or yourself."&nbsp; Later in his career Oerter did have Olympic coaches who would really push him but he always knew i was to make him better.</P> <P>Al Oerter was also a great success in the business world. Ironically, he worked with computers and advanced technology. Currently, Al Oerter is living in Colorado.&nbsp; And he is still a lean, but powerful 260 pound man.&nbsp; Although he is retired, he stays quite busy as a motivational speaker for a variety of corporations and aous. So enormous they give anyone a distinct advantage over their opponents at every level: Junior High, High School, College and even at the Pro Level. We do two squat workouts as core lifts per week. One core lift, o course, is the Parallel Squat and the other core lift is a Squat Variation. The Squat Variation to start with is the Box Squat.
